Pep Guardiola gives injury update before Manchester City’s game against Tottenham

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has provided updates on the injuries of Mateo Kovacic, Matheus Nunes, and John Stones ahead of their upcoming Premier League match against Tottenham Hotspur. The match is scheduled to take place at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, December 3.

Kovacic and Nunes, who both joined the club this summer, have missed the team’s previous two games due to unspecified injuries. Stones, on the other hand, has been out of action since being substituted at half-time in a game against BSC Young Boys on November 7 due to a muscle issue.

During his pre-match press conference, Guardiola mentioned that Kovacic has returned to training and is likely in contention to play. The manager also stated that Stones is making good progress and will be close to returning, while Nunes still requires additional time for a full recovery.

Stones has been the most affected by injuries this season, missing the first nine matches of the season with a hip injury and suffering another muscle problem early last month. Kovacic has appeared 14 times for the club, Nunes has featured 12 times, and both are yet to score or assist a goal.

In addition, Manchester City will be without Kevin De Bruyne, who is still recovering from a hamstring injury sustained on the first matchday of the league season.

On the other hand, Tottenham Hotspur will also be grappling with their own injury concerns. They will be without James Maddison, Micky van de Ven, and Rodrigo Bentancur for the upcoming match, while Pape Matar Sarr is doubtful, and Cristian Romero is suspended. These absences have affected Tottenham’s recent performance, as they enter the game following three consecutive defeats.

In contrast, Manchester City will enter the match on an eight-game unbeaten streak across competitions, including notable draws against Chelsea and Liverpool, and a victory over Leipzig in their last three games.
