The first qualifier of Legends League Cricket 2023 saw Urbanrisers Hyderabad secure a 75-run win over Manipal Tigers, propelling them to the grand finale. The match took place at Lalbhai Contractor Stadium in Surat and was marked by a high-scoring encounter.
After losing the toss, Urbanrisers Hyderabad were put in to bat first. Dwayne Smith took an aggressive approach, hitting the opposition bowlers all over the field. Despite losing wickets at the other end, he completed his half-century in 28 balls and a century in 42 balls. Smith received good support from Rikki Clarke, Gurkeerat Singh, Peter Trego, and Asghar Afghan to take the side to a formidable 253/6 in 20 overs. Smith ended the innings at 120(53), featuring 14 fours and seven sixes. Pankaj Singh and Thisara Perera took two wickets each for the Manipal Tigers.
In response, Manipal Tigers struggled to make an impact as their batters kept losing wickets at regular intervals. However, Angelo Perera’s 73-run knock off 30 balls with seven fours and five sixes helped them reach 178 runs in 16.3 overs before they were bowled out. Jerome Taylor and Peter Trego picked up three wickets each, with Stuart Binny bagging two.
In the ongoing Legends League Cricket 2023 season, Dwayne Smith secured the top position in the run-scoring charts, while Imran Khan held on to the top rank in the wickets standings.
The IPL 2021 seasoned Chris Gayle and Gurkeerat Singh found their names in the top 10 run-scorers’ list of Legends League Cricket 2023.
