In late November, Sumit Nagal informed the All India Tennis Association that he wouldn’t be participating in February’s Davis Cup Group I play-off tie in Pakistan, as the grass courts did not suit his playing style. AITA secretary general Anil Dhupar criticized the decision, but Nagal defended it in an interview, citing the participation of top players like Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic. Despite facing financial hardships, Nagal is set to participate in the Tennis Premier League, expressing excitement and acknowledging the league’s support for Indian tennis. The league kicks off on December 12, with Nagal’s team, the Gujarat Panthers, playing against the Mumbai Leon Army on the same day.
