WWE Legend’s Job in Jeopardy After Terrifying Encounter with Shane McMahon

Shane McMahon vs. Kurt Angle at King of the Ring 2001 was one of the most grueling matches in WWE history. A recent interview with veteran referee Mike Chioda revealed that he was worried about losing his job after the bout.

An error in production prevented a planned suplex through a pane of glass near the entrance ramp. Shane McMahon landed head-first on the concrete, causing his father, Vince McMahon, to react furiously backstage.

Chioda, the match referee, expressed his fear of facing the anger of his boss after the event. He revealed that Vince McMahon was concerned and instructed him not to let Kurt Angle suplex Shane McMahon through the glass again during the match.

Despite Chioda’s attempts to prevent it, Angle did suplex McMahon through the glass once more. Chioda realized at that point that the first pane of glass was real and there had been a production mistake.

Chioda continued to work with WWE until 2020 when he was released from the company.
