Manchester United could face Financial Fair Play (FFP) issues, according to financial expert Kieran Maguire. The team has suffered significant financial losses in recent years, including £42 million in 2022-23. Additionally, their poor performance in the UEFA Champions League puts them at risk of missing out on matchday revenues and prize money.
Maguire criticized the club’s failure to generate significant funds from player sales, stating that they lag behind their peers in this aspect. He believes that the Glazers could inject £90 million into the club to address the FFP limits, but they have been reluctant to do so.
In terms of on-field performance, Manchester United’s defeat against Newcastle United on December 2 extended their winless streak. The team is currently seventh in the league standings, with 24 points from 14 matches.
