Jonathan Haggerty Successfully Defends ONE Bantamweight Kickboxing World Title
Jonathan Haggerty recently achieved his two-sport world title dream when he knocked out Fabricio Andrade in the second round of their ONE bantamweight kickboxing world title match. The bout took place in the main event of ONE Fight Night 16 on November 3 at the Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand, where Haggerty displayed dominant striking technique.
With this victory, Haggerty became the fifth athlete in ONE Championship history to hold two world titles in two different sports – the ONE bantamweight Muay Thai and kickboxing world titles. This win has opened up numerous opportunities for the British combat sports superstar as he can now choose his next challenger from both the Muay Thai and kickboxing rulesets to defend either of his titles, and also explore the possibility of competing in MMA to potentially hunt for a third world title belt.
Following his historic win, fans from all over the world had the chance to weigh in on who Haggerty should face next. A post on Instagram by ONE Championship on November 7, 2023, asked for input on the future opponents for the two-sport titleholder.
Responses from the fans included a variety of dream matchups such as facing top names like Nong O, Superlek, K1 Takeru, and more. The world’s largest martial arts organization will take these sentiments into account when selecting Haggerty’s next opponent, ensuring that it will be another high-stakes, super-fight as ONE Championship houses some of the best strikers in the world.
For those who missed the action, the replay of ONE Fight Night 16 is available for Amazon Prime Video subscribers in North America.
